KonMari Method

April 11, 2019

The KonMari Method was created by Marie Kondo; bestselling author, star of Netflix's
hit show, "Tidying Up With Marie Kondo," and founder of KonMari Media, Inc. She specializes
in organization and “tidying up” cluttered homes and spaces. The KonMari Method approaches
organizing with a room-by-room or little-by-little mentality, taking small steps towards a more
peaceful and positive space. “The KonMari MethodTM encourages tidying by category – not by
location – beginning with clothes, then moving on to books, papers, komono (miscellaneous
items), and, finally, sentimental items. Keep only those things that speak to the heart, and discard
items that no longer spark joy.” According to this method the six basic rules of tidying are:
1. Commit yourself to tidying up
2. Imagine your ideal lifestyle
3. Finish discarding first
4. Tidy by category, not by location
5. Follow the right order
6. Ask yourself if it sparks joy
Basically, Marie Kondo wants you to find those 1980’s purple leotards and really think
about the last time they brought you joy. If you look at them and are immediately disgusted with
your younger selves fashion choices, throw them in the consign pile!! Those disco ball earrings
you have from that one party 30 years ago and completely forgot you had until they rolled out
from under a pile of finger paintings in the back of your closet? Consign them. The lava lamp
you bought yourself for your first college dorm room and gave to your daughter but she hid it in
her closet embarrassed that it’s older than she is? CONSIGN IT!
With Nicole’s help at Simplicity she can give new homes to all of those undesirables you
find and get them to someone who will find joy in them. Consigning with Simplicity is so easy.
First step, call the store and make an appointment, at least 24 hours in advance. Next step, bring
your merchandise to the store and have it appraised. She has “two consignment policies
depending if you want your items donated after the 90 or 180 day period or returned to you! If
you chose to have your items donated into our charity tag sale event you will receive 50% of
your sales. If you wish to have your items returned back to you that do not sell you will receive
30% of your sales.” Either way, Simplicity does the hard work for you, and your KonMari
approved space is now clutter free. Win, win!!
