Social Impact of Simplicity

March 28, 2019

Welcome back to our blog! For those that don’t know, we at Simplicity are heavily
involved in, and care a great deal, about our community and giving back. We pride ourselves on
our social impact and the quality products we sell that were made fair trade (clothing,
accessories, house wares, etc). Fair trade focuses on helping producers in developing countries
achieve better wages and safer social and environmental practices.

The brand Matr Boomie specializes in handcrafted gifts made in India and sold out of
Austin, Texas. Their focus is to build “paths to community empowerment and sustainable
incomes for artisans and their families in rural India.” Not only are their products made ethically,
the company also strives to connect small artisans in India to the rest of the world and give them
a platform to share their art and make money to support themselves and their families.
Acacia Creations is a fair trade company based out of Kenya and sold from Pennsylvania.
They offer fair trade goods like home decor, jewelry, and accessories. Acacia Creations goes
“beyond fair trade by creating jobs, providing training, and giving back to communities through
our education and healthcare initiatives.” They provide opportunity to small artisans giving them
the ability to reach a wider audience and impact more people’s lives.

Avatar Imports sells men’s and women’s clothing as well as home decor and accessories.
This company is based out of Santa Cruz and outsources work from Nepal. All workers are
treated fairly and paid appropriate wages. Their mission is to “design and create fun, fashionable,
high quality goods in a manner that is socially, environmentally and economically responsible”.
All three brands can be found here at Simplicity with a range of products and options to
choose from. We also have many other brands that support our social impact and fair trade
passions. In total, we have donated over $15,000 to local nonprofits with donations coming from
profits made during special sales throughout the years.

In addition, our owner Nicole Wrona sits on the board at Hope On A Mission, a local
nonprofit organization that specializes in “Restoring dignity to homeless, addicted women of the
streets of Poughkeepsie, NY through relationships of unconditional love. Each week we set up
on the corner of Main Street & South Clinton Streets and give hope, love, prayer, clothing, food,
and personal care items to whomever walks by.”

Through and through we care about our community and in the world. Stop by and take a
look at our many ethical and sustainable product! We would love to answer any questions you
have and hope to teach more people about the little things we can all do to leave a better mark on
our environment. Have a wonderful day!
